Why Distortion is Dangerous: #ProtectTheFacts

Join the Neuberger’s Managing Director Dr. Carson Phillips for an in-depth conversation about how the global rise in Holocaust distortion is being confronted through education and public awareness. Experts Julana Bredtmann of the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, Karel Fracapane of UNESCO and Jennifer Ciardelli of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum will discuss their current work in the field and offer insights into the collaborative efforts needed to stem the flow of Holocaust distortion and minimalization that is permeating social media discourse.

Professor Irwin Cotler will provide introductory remarks to contextualize the current situation of distortion and misinformation. Jody Spiegel will provide closing remarks addressing the specific Canadian context and what activities are being carried out to counter Holocaust denial, distortion and misinformation.

 

Julana Bredtmann is Program Officer with the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance in Berlin, Germany.

Jennifer Ciardelli is the Director of the Initiative on the Holocaust and Professional Leadership at the United States Holocaust Memorial and Museum in Washington, D.C.

Hon. Professor Irwin Cotler is Canada's special envoy on preserving Holocaust remembrance and combating antisemitism. He is the International Chair of the Raoul Wallenberg Centre for Human Rights, an Emeritus Professor of Law at McGill University, former Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada and serves as the Canadian Head of Delegation to the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance.

Karel Fracapane is a UNESCO Programme Specialist Section of Global Citizenship and Peace Education Division for the Peace and Sustainable Development Education Sector, in Paris, France.

Jody Spiegel is the director of the Azrieli Foundation’s Holocaust Survivors Memoirs Program and the incoming Chair of the Education Working Group of the International Holocaust Remembrance Association.
